Giant beans from Prespes lakes in Macedonia of Northern Greece are a native variety of high quality, thin-skinned and very easy to prepare product, due to their short boiling time, that has been cultivated in this area since the 16th century. This variety is distinguished by the large size of beans, their reniform shape and white colour. A Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) product, “Arosis – Organic Greek Giant Beans from Prespes” are grown around the Small Prespa lake, a place of unique beauty and tradition. The cultivation takes place at an altitude of 860 meters, in the protected area of the Prespes National Park and in small family farms. The farmers still preserve the traditional, 100% natural farming methods.
They are soft and smooth and their taste is so rich and full that they are delicious even plain, without any kind of sauce. Best cooked in the oven, in a salad or as a side dish to meat and shellfish.
